Days in The Field

by Eko Prasetyo @ 4:19 PM

Aaaah..the live of a petroleum engineer...
Got assigned to the Kurau Field last week, Friday to be exact. It was a bitter tasted mix of event. It was past work hours on the afternoon, I was half asleep already and not on the mood to talk about works anymore when my senior told me that I was to be sent to the field on Monday (March 21st, 2005). Got shocked, half-asleep way, I then got panicked cause it's late on friday, when people are already out and paperworks will be very difficult to be done, and my senior, who has been accompanying me, seemed to be still absorbed on his works and got confused.
So, with the help of a few friends, I did the paperworks, faxed it (thanks Pak Jaka for still around), and told senior that I'd be coming in saturday in case there are things need to be done before monday.
So Saturday I went in to the office, hoping to clear things up. Turned out that there's nothing special.
Sunday, I am staying at the home, relaxing for the big things to come. I started packing on the evening. Packing enough things to carry on my daily bag.
Monday, on the small hours, I am awake. Rushing to the kitchen with my bag filled with the stuff I need to bring to the field, I found my mother cooking some fast breakfast. I then woke up my cousin to take me to the office immediately.
He drove smoothly to my office's building lobby, made it earlier than the the supposed deadline. I met other, unfamiliar employees of my company. The Field Crews, I thought.
After waiting for my partner to show up, I joint the others in a van that took us to the airport, taking a Garuda to Pekanbaru.
My inexperience with airport really showed up that day. I got panick whenever my partner is out of my sight (and somehow he had the tendency to do so, forgetting that I HAVE NEVER TOOK A PLANE !)
So, all the hassle and confusion aside, I finally boarded the plane, trying to find my seat without looking more confused than I had been.
Found my seat ! And the view looks great...if you enjoy seeing wings and jet engines...bummer !!
About 2 hours aboard the plane, I finally arrive at the Sutan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru.
Again, my confusion because of my inexperience showed, and my partner once again had the unique talent to remove himself from my sight.
I decided to go independent and started to scan around.
My partner showed up right after I was going to ask some security type dude about things. Geez.
So, after an hour of blabbering together with some elderly folks who has tasted the field salt longer (obviously) than me, the Terrano Armada is coming.
What, you're wondering what's a terrano armada ? Well, they are a bunch of Nissan Terrano specially rented for our transportation from the airport to Butun.
Butun is where my contact with civilized, women filled world ends and the contact with less civilized, men filled land begins. It's a rather small seaports, from which I use a jetboat to reach Kurau, the central accomodation of my company field operations.
Aah, taking airplane and jetboat, things that I'had never done before. The feelings are rather good and enlightening, having to feel new experiences, and seeing new things. Not to mention finally out of my java-centric lives and land on other Islands of Indonesia :D
Upon reaching Kurau Jetty, the central seaport of Kondur Petroleum, S.A field operation, a sense of pride took place.

Here I am, a man with a job as an engineer. Never have dreamt that it will be coming to a realization, considering my 9 months of unemployment and my neverending obsession to become a comic artists. But still there I was, watching a gate of what is a petroleum company centre of operations. Soon, I'd see for myself what the fuss have been people induced to me about.

BOREDOM !!!

by Eko Prasetyo @ 11:20 AM

Man, boss is on leave for 1 week....without leaving me anything to do....
So here I am, bored to death.

I had finished from a Side Wall Core Test Results Interpretations Report and feel like there's my brain need more rooms for the avalanche of materials that I had just read.

Browsing through the net, I have filled some cellphone forums with my own entries on interested topics surrounding the upcoming release of the upcoming brand new Series 75 cellphones from siemens. Among them, the next generation M Class, M75 is very2 desirable for me, having seen the planned mobile speaker accesories for it to be used like Apple iPod and the Altec Lansing iM3 combined together. The SXG75 is also an interisting entry with UMTS technology attached to it, apparent from the frontface camera lens that can be seen from the leaked images on the net.

I also filled my time with writing this rather long blog...Boy I haven't wrote another long blog since my ADSL Internet Service Provider changed to always off connection. I have been writing short blog expressing things filling up my head and tearing my heart (exaggerating, really)

Now this situation reminds me of my friend Isman, the writer of the book "Bertanya atau Mati" (Ask or Die). He wrote that a working man is not too far from being pro-wrestlers : working hard and breaking bones apart when they are amateur athletes to gain recognition but once they are professional wrestlers and get paid, they are PRETEND to work hard and breaking bones...

Is that what am I doing right now? Feels like it..

Aaah..still waiting for that inspiration on what to do independently....

Sucker ISP

by Eko Prasetyo @ 10:34 AM

You have probably read about my discontent with my current ISP. It has been such a big time sucker, up to now.
Last thursday, I am able to enjoy my internet connection using the current ISP without problems.
And Friday, it sucked again. Up to now.
I am fed up with it. I'll cut it off next week.

Suck State

by Eko Prasetyo @ 1:55 PM

It is very annoying to live in a country whichs corruption level is Numero Uno in the world.
You are a loyal and paying customers to a service provider, but when the service provider turn into a sucker and you give them complains, they just tell you that they "accept the complains", "record telephone numbers", and shall "give it to the related experts".
But in reality, those "related experts" have never called me, or paid home-visits.
And I just found out that a top man of the company give his in-laws the top-of-the line package free of charge to his in-laws !!
It simply sucks, big time !!

UNLEASHING ME !!

by Eko Prasetyo @ 9:20 AM

I just had enough !!

Not My Week

by Eko Prasetyo @ 11:35 AM

This week is turning to be so not my week. Everything change in the direction that I don'w want to.
Everything! That's too much load for my soul...
Sigh :(

DAMN ISP !!!!

by Eko Prasetyo @ 7:52 AM

I am an internet freaks and proud of it. I see opportunities on the internet, and I intend to reap it.
For that to work, I need a fast internet connection, easy to setup, and downright available.
That’s why I chose to subscribe to TELKOM SPEEDY, an ADSL service provided by TELKOM, Indonesia’s largest telecommunication service.
Many people said that if other choices are available, you should step clear of anything that spelled with TELKOM in it. I didn’t have choices on the cheaper aspect, so I chose TELKOM SPEEDY.
Months went by without problems. Although there are reports that billing systems of TELKOM SPEEDY has gone screwed, I keep on paying cause I have no suspicions over the bill that’s sent to me.
End of January, my ADSL router went blinking. I called TELKOM and they said their GATEWAY SERVER was down. So I calmly waited for the server to
Early February, PLN (State Electric Company), dig for cable maintenance close to my home. Other then leaving poorly reburied cables, the dig also left a problem for me.
All TELKOM connections to my home were suddenly cut off. The office phone, the home phone, and of course, SPEEDY. All thanks to PLN good job on screwing cables of TELKOM lines.
Maintenance was called right away to repair the damage done. It’s 3 days later that I can enjoy my SPEEDY connection again.
Enjoy I said? Bah, Nope. I have never enjoyed my SPEEDY like it was before the GATEWAY SERVER went off. After that PLN accident, my ADSL router has never stopped saying that it can’t connect. It has been happily a blinking ADSL router.
Started on 10th of February, I have never stopped calling the costumer service line. They keep on collecting my complaints, my name, and my cellphone number. And because calling them has never done any good, I went further. I started collecting myself, and this is my collection of ugliness :

· February 20th, 2005. 5.30 P.M Indonesia West Time. A woman, Dewi accepted my complaint call and saying she will contact the technical support. No acceptable result.
· February 21st, 2005. 4.30 A.M Indonesia West Time. A man, Sugeng, Dewi accepted my complaint call and saying she will contact the technical support. No acceptable result.
· February 21st, 2005. 6.41 P.M Indonesia West Time. The complaint call line was busy. I wondered why..
· February 21st, 2005. 6.45 P.M Indonesia West Time. A woman, Iin, accepted my complaint call and she said that the technicians are working on it. No acceptable result.
· February 22nd, 2005. 4.30 A.M Indonesia West Time. My ADSL router stopped blinking. THANKS GOD! I said. But unfortunately I was too happy too soon. This connection was useless cause I couldn’t browse at all!
· February 22nd, 2005. 5.22 P.M Indonesia West Time. A woman by the name of Winar accepted my complain call and saying she will contact the technical support. No acceptable result.
· February 22nd, 2005. 5.59 P.M Indonesia West Time. My ADSL router stopped blinking. I was able to browse, but it lagged heavily 30 minutes later, and then cut off completely on 6.35 P.M.
· February 22nd, 2005. 7.20 P.M-9.00 P.M Indonesia West Time. My ADSL router stopped blinking. I was able to connect to the internet till I decided to go to bed.
· February 23rd, 2005. 4.12 A.M Indonesia West Time. I woke up hoping my ADSL router was not blinking. My hope gone, it was blinking.
· February 23rd, 2205. 6.00 P.M Indonesia West Time. My ADSL router was not blinking. I browse. Ten minutes later the blinking happened.
· February 23rd, 2005. 7.30 P.M Indonesia West Time. My ADSL router was still blinking.
· February 23rd, 2005. 6.28 P.M Indonesia West Time. A woman, Tini, accepted my complain call and saying she will contact the technical support. No acceptable result.
· February 23rd, 2005. 8.00 P.M Indonesia West Time. My ADSL router was still blinking. I decided to turn it off and went to bed.
· February 24th, 2005. 4.00 A.M Indonesia West Time. My ADSL router was blinking.
· February 24th, 2005. 5.00 A.M. My ADSL router stopped blinking.
· February 24th, 2005. 5.45 A.M. My ADSL router was blinking.
· February 24th, 2005. 9.19 P.M. My ADSL router was blinking.
· February 25th, 2005. 8.00 P.M. My ADSL router was not blinking. I was able to browse till my ADSL router started blinking again on 9.00 P.M
· February 26th, 2005. 5.46 A.M. I called the complaint line and was told to that the technician will try to fix it, and she took my name and number.
· February 26th, 2005. 10.10 A.M-8.00 P.M. Despite a few turning on-off of the ADSL router, I was able to enjoy my Speedy connection. I wondered whether the presence of a TELKOM top guy who is my cousin’s husband on my home got to do with it
· February 27th, 2005. I decided to video-record the blinking with my cellphone. The turning on-off ritual didn’t solve the problem. I really was thinking that the presence of the top guy got anything to do with the all-day connection I was able to enjoy the day before. If only I was able to EXPLODE in front of him like I first thought when I heard he was coming….but he’s a family….not a polite one to explode in front of him, no? guess what? WRONG!
· February 27th, 2005. 10.35 A.M Another blinking record taken. Called the CS line. Silent. Called again. A woman named Ade received my complaint call, and took my name and cellphone number.
· February 27th, 2005. The modem was still blinking. I recorded the blinking time and time again.

So here I’m, an obedient and honest subsriber that always pays whatever bills that come to me, feeling screwed ‘cause the service had gone totally wrong and seems unserviceable.
Is it because I took the cheapest services package that they choose to ignore me? All I want is technical checking on my ADSL. FUCK THEM THEN!
May Tsunami hit them, HARD!

Yours Truly

Zengarde Strivearth

ADSL number : 121220000166

Always paying, always screwed. Bah, the live of a low-end technology service consumer in Indonesia SUCKS !!

Oh yeah, that top guy of telkom, his name is Warid if I’m not wrong, is trying to make a NetCafe using an unlimited ADSL connection as a gift to his just marrried cousin-in-law. She’ll be using it FREE. And my home phone number is listed under the name of the woman who helped, very hard, to make his wife married him. She is my mother.
Life’s unfair, no?

March 2nd, Computer Expo. Time to humiliate some people.

Quake (again)

by Eko Prasetyo @ 8:00 PM

Another Quake hit Indonesia area again, this time on Banda Sea. Although hit with power of more than 6 richter scale, there has not been a report of Tsunami occuring.
Let's not hope that there won't be tsunami, or Indonesia shall be hit double time this year : Aceh and Ambon.
In case of Ambon, the entire Islands Province has the possibility of being put off maps forever if any tsunami occurs

Back Online (but for how long?)

by Eko Prasetyo @ 7:56 PM

Well, well, well...that dumb ISP finally able to live up to a promise...it promised to finalize the server fix on the afternoon..and here I am, online for more then 2 hours...
But for how long? Can it be till the end of April?
I'll upgrade to a better service package if it can last till the end of my first year >:D

Missing Animes

by Eko Prasetyo @ 7:27 PM

Despite the fact that I'm wealthier while working, I think I'm getting poorer on the spiritual side. No one at this office seems to understands Anime, or have anime as their main interests, much like me.
Aahh, I miss those geeks back at the college....

Sleepy Beast

by Eko Prasetyo @ 1:27 PM

My primal instinct to rage seems to grow from my sleepy state. A 15 minutes of nap seems to be able to tame the beast.
Now I am left wondering why such a cause occurs...I think I had long enough sleep last night..or did I ?
I wouldn't know If I was sleepwalking...

Sleep

by Eko Prasetyo @ 8:16 AM

Man, I don't know what got into me today, but one thing for sure : I am very, very, very SLEEPY!

I think I need a refreshment somehow. And somehow, strolling outside the office looking for warmth of the sun is not on my mind....my body seems very tired too.

Is it mental fatigue caused by planning my revenge to TELKOM ?

I just don't know.
